One tap of the badge does the thinking
Open the app, scan the learner's NFC badge — that's it. The system infers whether it is a check in or a check out from the learner's last-known state and the time of day, and shows the name and photo the instant the badge resolves. A one-tap override is there when you need it.

It fails loudly
An unknown badge never slips through
If a scanned badge is not registered, inactive, or would create a duplicate, the screen takes over loudly with a clear reason — never a quiet success. A check-out within five minutes of a check-in is rejected to stop accidental double taps.
- Unknown or inactive badges are refused with a plain explanation.
- Duplicate consecutive actions and a 5-minute double-scan buffer are blocked.
- Green confirms a server-recorded scan; amber means it was saved offline and is still queued.
Connectivity drops
Keep scanning when the line is bad
When the learner and guardian were resolved online but the final record write fails on poor connectivity, the scan queues to a device-local outbox and shows an amber confirmation. It syncs automatically the moment the device is back online.
- A narrow on-device outbox holds writes that could not reach the server.
- Amber tells you a scan is saved but not yet sent; it clears to confirmed on sync.
- A read-only NFC diagnostics screen lets you check secure context and tag reads without recording a movement.
When it counts
The safety tools are one press away
If the school goes into lockdown or a drill, your screen shows a clear banner and the rules change until an admin clears it. An emergency broadcast reaches every guardian in two confirmed steps.
- Lockdown and drill states change behaviour and show a staff-wide banner.
- A two-step emergency broadcast confirms before it sends, so a misfire never reaches guardians.
- Sign visitors in and out at the gate with a short-lived pass — PIN or signed QR — and no raw ID number stored.
